Jobs Action Kit

It takes 49 tradies and apprentices to build 1000 solar panels — and we need millions!

Wind turbines have over 10,000 parts. Who’s going to make and install them?

The good news? It’s not “jobs or the environment.” Cutting pollution creates jobs.

This month's Union Climate Connectors Action Kit is about jobs. It coincides with a recently released report from the Australian Conservation Foundation and the ACTU called Creating Jobs - Cutting Pollution: the roadmap for a cleaner, stronger economy.

Food Action Kit

Pull any string in the climate crisis knot and you’ll find it hitched up to all the others.
Food is no exception.

Modern agriculture is a major carbon polluter because it uses tonnes of fuel and fertilisers. Methane, mainly from belching cows, and nitrous oxide from nitrate fertilisers, are also potent greenhouse gases. Food production causes deforestation, as more and more land grows pasture and feed crops for livestock, and palm oil for processed foods. Deforestation makes Indonesia and Brazil the planet’s third and fourth worst polluters.

But the good news is that the solutions can be delicious, nutritious and ingenious.

Water Action Kit

Our first kit for 2010 - Water!

Our challenge: In south-eastern Australia, home to most of our people and agriculture, rainfall is declining. Our CSIRO and Bureau of Meteorology tell us this is primarily due to human-caused climate change.

The good news: It’s possible to get the goods and services we need—crops, clean clothes, sanitation—with less water. Smart, innovative households, farmers and urban water managers are taking action to secure our water future. We’ve picked best ideas so you can too.

Check out some ideas for how you can protect your water, and a great activity for the kids in the Climate Connectors Water kit!
